APTIM Field Scientist in St. Petersburg, Florida

This position has tremendous flexibility, growth, and career development potential for a passionate geoscientist.
APTIM seeks to hire a part-time casual marine geoscientist in our St. Petersburg, FL office. The position will involve collecting, processing, analyzing and interpreting a variety of high-resolution geophysical data including sidescan sonar, multibeam sonar, shallow-penetration chirp sub-bottom, medium-penetration multi-channel seismic reflection, and magnetometer. Additionally responsibilities include the collection and processing of marine vibracores. The employee will use these data to prepare engineering, geological and geohazard maps, technical and scientific reports and presentations for regulatory, facilities siting, foundation-design and a variety of other engineering applications in a team setting. The candidate must be willing to travel and be able to adapt to challenging offshore environments.
Collection and interpretation of geotechnical, geophysical, geologic and other scientific data.
Development of plans, specifications, analyses, evaluations, maps, position papers, procedures and reports.
Ensure conformance to applicable technical standards as well as company policies and procedures.
Review of applicable regulations that may impact project scope.
Communication of technical concepts, evaluation results, plans, reports, etc. via oral and written reporting; and ensures conformance to applicable technical standards as well as company policies and procedures.
Working with GPS, geophysical (chirp sub-bottom, sidescan sonar, magnetometers, etc.) and geotechnical (vibracores, surface grab samplers, etc.) equipment.
Open to travel and extended field assignments.
Bachelors of Science degree in geology, geophysics, geological oceanography, or related field of study required.
Demonstrably strong technical/scientific writing skills a must.
Experience with geophysical systems (including chirp sub-bottom, multibeam sonar, sidescan sonar and magnetometer) required.
Experience with multi-channel seismic-reflection data collection preferred.
Marine geophysical data interpretation experience using SonarWiz, Hypack and IHS Kingdom software.
Has in-depth experience, knowledge and skills in own discipline.
Works independently with minimal guidance. Usually determines own work priorities. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.
